Mountain Bike to Bushiribana Gold Mill Aruba

There are some really great mountain bike trails that follow the east coast of Aruba. A great ride is from Boroncana to the gold mill ruins. Bushiribana operated as a gold smelter from 1825 to 1835.

This ride contains some technical sections where the trail goes over large rocks but it’s otherwise an easy ride for an experienced rider.

Following the trails

Unfortunately the trails are not well marked. There are some permanent markers and some temporary that look like there were put up by a tour company. There are several forks in the trail that lead to loops or branches that go either to the shore or to a feeder trail. If you take a wrong turn, just turn around, check your phone and enjoy the scenery. You can’t really get lost. There are a couple places where the trail dumps you onto the main dirt road for a short distance. Keep an eye on other mountain bike tire tracks to find where the trail starts up again.

How long is this ride?

Fom Treasure Palms it’s about 13 km and 50 minutes one-way on my ebike.  There are a few uphills so I would add 15-20 minutes on a regular bike.

Directions

Stating at Boroncana, take the trail that goes to Alto Vista and turn left at the first fork. If you miss it and end up at Alto Vista, head down towards the water to get back on the trail.

From there, follow the trail that straddles the coast. When you get to road that comes down from Alto Vista, the trail takes you more inland and it gets hillier.
