Oranjestad is a small city that can be explored on foot in a couple of hours. Highlights include examples of dutch Caribbean architecture, shops, and restaurants.
Here is a suggested walking route of Oranjestad:
Start at the Royal Plaza Mall (photo above) and walk southeast along the waterfront past the souvenir stands, the marina, through the Renaissance Market, Queen Wihelmina Park and stop at the West Deck for a drink or some lunch. We recommend trying an Aruban dish called Keshi Yena.
Head back along the waterfront and turn right onto Oranjestraat. Pass the Aruba Historical Museum and then take a left on the pedestrian street where the main government buildings are located. At the end of this street, at the corner Havenstraat and Kazernestraat, you will see more Dutch-style buildings in the Plaza Daniel Leo.
Walk north on Kazernestraat and turn right on Caya Betico Croes. This is a pedestrian street lined with shops.
At the end of the street, hop on the free trolley and head back to your starting point near the cruise ship terminal. The trolley runs 10 AM to 5 PM most days.
